by David Allen, President
Well friends and neighbors, another Southeastern NC Chapter AACA car show (2012) is in the books. And it was one for the books too. After two years of bad, or iffy weather, keeping show participants from bringing out their cars, Mother Nature smiled on us at our new location this year on the beautiful Mount Olive College campus. Fifty-five cars came out to bask in the sun of a near perfect day.
Joining us for the show was Jeff Oaks, NC Region President, Bill Cox, NC Region Treasurer and Randy Stone, Ex-This-and-that, oh you all know the list. Anyway, we thank them for coming to our show and everyone from near and far who came as well and made our show a success! One of the things about a show, is that friends from other chapters come and renew friendships and make new ones. Something special about old car people, you may have never met them before, but it feels like you have known them forever once you get to talking old cars.
Last year we missed having Mr.Crisp, spokes-pickle emeritus from the Mount Olive Pickle Company at our show. We were told he had retired to a condo in Boca, although rumors have persisted that the gargantuan gherkin had joined Green Peace, other stories have him with The Peace Corps. To fill the void at the pickle company by his having left, a new spokes-pickle, OllieQcumber was hired this year. Ollie made his first appearance at our show to help with the trophy ceremony. Still a bit young and inexperienced with a crowd, we feel Ollie will blossom into a great spokes pickle given more... ah, shall we say, seasoning?
New to the show field this year was the mighty mascot for Mount Olive College, the Trojan. He had his picture taken with every car on the field and he was even seen trying a few on for size. Keeping spirit at a fever pitch is the Trojan’s duty, but the true cheerleader for the college was at the show in the person of the President of the College, Dr. Phil Kerstetter. His pride in the college, it’s campus and the student body was truly inspiring. He was given the task to look the show field over and pick just one as his favorite. The winner received an engraved silver platter. He confessed to me that it was no easy task as he loved all the old cars in attendance. His final choice was a 1929 Model A owned by Max Morton.
Other special winners were, Thomas & Sean Wright driving a 1936 Rolls Royce, winner of a silver platter award from Eastern Aluminum Company and Terri Padgett’s 1956 Chevrolet Bel-Air won a silver platter award from Mount Olive Pickle Company. Congratulations go the special award winners and to all the trophy winners. Our 50/50 winner headed home with an extra 180 bucks in his pocket!
I want to take a few lines here to thank all the members of Southeastern Chapter for all their hard work and for making the show the success it was. No one puts on a show alone, it is a group effort, and we have quite a wonderful group. I guess it is allowed as president of the chapter to say how proud I am of all of our members. Thanks everybody, job well done!

2012 SENC Chapter Car Show Highlights
Mount Olive was host to several international guests, those being a variety of foreign cars at the annual Southeastern NC Chapter AACA Antique Car Show held on Saturday, September 15, 2012.
The international/foreign car brands included Alfa Romeo, Austin Healey, Mercedes Benz, MG, Porsche, Toyota and a stunningly beautiful 1936 Rolls Royce. The show was an outstanding success. Blessed with beautiful weather, a marvelous variety of fifty-five (55) antique cars graced the campus of Mount Olive College.
Mount Olive was also proud to welcome the 'Made in America / Imported from Detroit / God Bless America' car brands. Who didn't get goose bumps when they saw the Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes, Road Runners and other American muscle cars at the show. Other American-made vehicles included a classy and rare, 1963 Imperial LeBaron 4-door hardtop, Ford Model A truck and a flock of Thunderbirds. There were Chevelles, Torinos, Firedbirds, a rare 1964 Pontiac Catalina 2+2, Chevrolet pick-up trucks, Impalas, a cool modified Mercury coupe, Chevy Bel-Airs and other awesome modified cars and trucks. If variety is the spice of life, it was really hot and spicy at the car show in Mount Olive.
Special thanks to everyone who gave of their time and expense to attend the show with their antique vehicles. Our show would not have been a success without your participation. We had cars attending from as far west as Greensboro, to the north from Rocky Mount, from the east came vehicles from New Bern and Jacksonville, to the south were cars from Wilmington, and Shallotte in Brunswick County, near the South Carolina border. Again, thank you, and please come back next year!
The Southeastern NC Chapter had great support from many local business and individuals through their donations. We cannot express enough gratitude to our faithful car show sponsors. Special thanks go to our major show sponsors, the Mount Olive Pickle Company of Mount Olive and Eastern Aluminum Company of Goldsboro. Special recognition is due chapter member Ronnie Davis. Each year, Ronnie has gathered the largest number of our car show sponsors.
Last but not least, are thanks to the members of the Southeastern NC Chapter AACA. Our chapter prides itself on having one of the best local shows in the North Carolina Region AACA. The show runs with almost military-like precision, each member has a job and does it well. Plus we have a fun time 'making it happen'. Our hospitality trailer with its multitude of breakfast treats is second to none! The door prizes are excellent and numerous AND don't forget the free jar of Mount Olive pickles! Best pickles in the world! Smart looking trophies and special awards are given out at each show. We challenge any AACA chapter to meet our standards.
We sincerely appreciate and thank, Mount Olive College, for allowing our show to be held on their beautiful and spacious campus. Proceeds from our car show helps fund the Southeastern NC Chapter AACA Scholarship Endowment Fund at Mount Olive College. Annually the College selects a student to be the recipient of that scholarship.
