What a beautiful day for a car show. The sun was radiating off a Carolina blue sky as the breeze drifted softly from the Atlantic Ocean, and the native sea gulls were emanating their usual cries for attention. Visitors to our coast were strolling along the downtown waterfront, and the antique cars were drawing crowds as they sat parked against a shimmering background of our inner harbor water and Sugarloaf Island. The cars looked exquisite and they were drawing a large crowd on this 13th day of September along the Morehead City waterfront.
A few cars that caught the attention of everyone included; a 1921 Packard, Max’s 1922 Maxwell, a 1933 Essex, a 1937 Ford, Shelby’s 1940 Ford, Wayne’s 1940 Chevrolet DeLuxe, Ray’s just restored and looking better than new 1956 Chevrolet 2dr Coupe, Julia’s 1957 Chevrolet 2dr Sedan just hauled in from Vermont, Lenwoods 1960 Corvette, Carl’s very first car -- a 1962 Chevrolet Convertible, Sonny’s all original 1968 Ford XLT, Gloria’s AACA Senior Award winning 1966 Mustang Convertible, Karyl’s 1966 MGB, Sam’s 427 Cu. In. powered 1968 Chevrolet Biscayne, and so many more exceptionally nice cars. There were many visitors this weekend casually walking and reminiscing about the days they rode in Uncle Johnny’s or Aunt Barbara’s old car. Their old cars had bumpy seat covers, no air conditioning, they either had hand cranked windows or no windows at all, AM radio, vacuum operated windshield wipers that stopped working when needed most, no seat belts, and many other missing options found in today’s modern automobiles. Visitors to our coast will remember this picturesque day. There were so many memories recalled on this day because there was an AACA Auto Show held on Morehead City’s waterfront for car buffs of all ages to enjoy. We’ll be here again next year at the same place and the same time, the second Saturday in September. We hope you will bring your car and friends and join us as we reminisce together about yesteryear. |
