2012 NC Region Spring Meet
April 14, 2012 - Today was the NC Region Spring Meet, held at the Rockingham County / Shiloh Airport. A big thank you to Three Rivers Chapter for hosting the meet. Another big thanks goes to Dave at the airport for the work in arranging the sponsorships and getting the Rockingham county humane society, dogsfordeployment, the Civil Air Patrol, Radio Active Airshows (remote control planes), Steve's Soft Serve (ice cream), Shriner's Hospital, Airlift Hope, Wings Inc, Nanny B's Restaurant/catering.
The weather was much better this year than last year when we had rain, and tornados in NC that day. Today was about 70, partly cloudy with a stiff breeze.
Radio Active put on two remote control airplane shows. These folks put a whole new meaning to a lawn mower that can fly. The windy conditions did make it challanging for these folks to do the stunts but still put on a fantasic show. They also did shows with small battery powered planes insie Hanger 2 , along with talking to folks about their hobby.
Rockingham county Humane Society put on a dog show/parade and one of the Shriner's joined in, walking his dog.
The NC Region Spring Meet had 54 cars registered for the meet this year, which is down from normal attendance. Fuel prices being around the $4/gal mark may be the reason some of the cars that regularly attend, didn't. The 2012 Antique Automobile Club of America's (AACA) National President, Herb Oakes was in attendance, as well serving as the NC Region Chief Judge. The cars were judged starting at 11 by 30 judges. The awards were presented at 2:30pm. There are several special awards given at the Spring and Fall NC Region Meets. The Fred Ross Memorial Trophy, and the Herb Payne Memorial Trophy.
Thanks to our sponsors:

2012 Annual Business Meeting
2012 marks the 5th Anniversary of our NC Region Annual Membership Meeting held at the Ramada Inn in Burlington, NC. It has evolved over the past few years into being a really great event to attend in mid-January. Word has spread and we have members from other Regions
in North Carolina and Virginia joining us. The Meet has grown enough that we are sponsored in part by our fellow Regions Alamance and Hornet’s Nest in support. The Ramada Inn has been very hospitable as well and has plenty to offer. They provide us with several conference rooms and a really great rate on rooms with complimentary breakfast for those spending the night.
The meet kicks off at noon on Friday with the AACA National Judging School hosted by a team of our AACA National Judges. Their presentation covers all aspects of Judging at an AACA national event with a number of examples and judging do’s and don’ts. This is followed by a National Apprentice Program for those who are just getting started. Afterwards, the National Judging team will judge members vehicles if desired. National Judging points are credited for attending these classes. To judge at a National AACA event you have to attend at least one judging school per year. The advantage of attending the judging school in Burlington is that it allows you to have this already completed when you attend a National Meet!
On Saturday a variety of one hour seminars are held in the conference rooms for you to choose from covering different topics in the antique auto hobby. This years’ agenda has three CJE’s or
2012 AACA Annual Meeting - Philly
Weather here in Philadelphia is pretty nice today. Currently 42°. NC Region members I've sighted include Her and Fran Oakes, Ron & Judy Devine, Jeff Oaks, Bob Starift, and Marshall VanWinkle. I'm sure there are other members here.
I have attended two seminars this morning. The first was on automotive advertising. The second was for AACA Webmasters. In that class Peter Garipey used me for infromation on the new Joomla 2.5 software as I'm the only one so far using it. Our website was also talked about because we are the only AACA setup with a domain with subdomain (chapter) sites. Also that we have the largest site. I also picked up some infromation on making our site better, which I hope to get in place over the next few weeks.
I'm off to check out the trade show before the afternoon round of seminars.
Friday evening update:
I checked out the AACA Library seminar this afternoon. Chris Ritter, AACA Librarain, had two ladies from a place that does media conservation and restoration speak to us. The biggest things they stressed was to control the humidity and temp to preserve our collections. Also don't use tape or glue of any form. The damage done can not be reversed doen the road. Also don't use rubber bands or paper clips (unless you get the stainless steel clips, which won't rust).
The president's dinner is currently going on. Our president Jeff Oaks should be there. At 8:15 is the start of the AACA Museum Auction. I went to the preview earlier this afternoon and they had items out that were for the slient auction but some of them were also a Buy It Now for a certain price. I purchased 25 Matchbox and Hot Wheel cars with a Matchbox case at thet time.
Tomorrow (Sat) morning is AACA Judging school.
