2012 Annual Business Meeting
2012 marks the 5th Anniversary of our NC Region Annual Membership Meeting held at the Ramada Inn in Burlington, NC. It has evolved over the past few years into being a really great event to attend in mid-January. Word has spread and we have members from other Regions
in North Carolina and Virginia joining us. The Meet has grown enough that we are sponsored in part by our fellow Regions Alamance and Hornet’s Nest in support. The Ramada Inn has been very hospitable as well and has plenty to offer. They provide us with several conference rooms and a really great rate on rooms with complimentary breakfast for those spending the night.
The meet kicks off at noon on Friday with the AACA National Judging School hosted by a team of our AACA National Judges. Their presentation covers all aspects of Judging at an AACA national event with a number of examples and judging do’s and don’ts. This is followed by a National Apprentice Program for those who are just getting started. Afterwards, the National Judging team will judge members vehicles if desired. National Judging points are credited for attending these classes. To judge at a National AACA event you have to attend at least one judging school per year. The advantage of attending the judging school in Burlington is that it allows you to have this already completed when you attend a National Meet!
On Saturday a variety of one hour seminars are held in the conference rooms for you to choose from covering different topics in the antique auto hobby. This years’ agenda has three CJE’s or
Continuous Judging Education classes offered by our National judges. Charles Robinson will be covering the restoration of Military Vehicles which is a newer interest that has really taken off in the past few years. HPOF or Historical Preservation of Original Features, a judging class in shows and meets for unrestored originals has had some changes and updates recently. Hulon McCraw is hosting a seminar on these new guidelines. Herb Oakes, both National Judge and our NC Region Chief Judge is hosting a class covering judging teams and the importance of Team Captains.
AACA Touring has always been a fun way to enjoy the old car hobby and still continues to grow in popularity. There’s nothing like getting your antique out on the road with a whole team of others and driving. Eric Marsh is going to give a presentation on touring and probably tell you about the fun you’ve been missing if you haven’t been on a tour! Mel Carson, Executive Director of Hornet’s Nest Region is going to give us some information on AACA National Meets and he is also going to speak about the Charlotte Autofair hosted twice annually by Hornets Nest Region. Most of us have been to the Autofair many times but it is really quite interesting to see the dynamics involved to make this event happen. ZDDPlus has been very popular with antique auto restorers and have been guests at a number of events. They have been invited to speak about their longtime proven product that puts back the necessary additives in older engines (pre-1990) that were removed from the motor oil by the EPA. This is very important for keeping those older style engines lubricated properly by putting the oil back to the specifi cations the engines were originally designed for.
The event wraps up with the afternoon Membership Meeting. Before the meeting, a final seminar will be presented by Trooper Ingram on behalf of the North Carolina Highway Patrol. His presentation is about Safe Driving in North Carolina and he indicated one of the latest hot topics is distracted driving.
At the Membership Meeting current information on upcoming events is announced. Special recognition and awards are presented to chapters and members, and in closing, Officers for the new calendar year are installed before adjournment.
Mark your calendar and make plans to be a part of this winter event. The Ramada Inn Continues to support us and has given us even better room rates this year along with a Hot Buffet Lunch. For more specifics, see the Registration Form and Agenda in this issue of NC Region News.
