2011 VIR Cruise-In
November 5th was the first Old Dominion/NC Region Cruise-in at Virginia International Raceway, or as more commonly known...VIR. It was a cold and blustery day, about about 8am, cars started arriving for the event. There was car there from Maryland. By about 11 am we had approximately 60 to 70 cars. By noon, there were more.
We didn't get out on the track until about 12:40, taking two laps around the track. We had enough cars that we streched the line all the way around the 3.27 mile track. There were times when you could run 45-50 but then would have to stop at other points on the track.
AACA SE Fall Meet - Bristol,TN/VA
Aug 11-13 was the Southeastern Fall Meet in Bristol, Tn and Bristol, VA.
On Friday, David Devine took his 1963 Chevy II Nova for 10 laps around Bristol Motor Speedway. Ron said that someone at the hotel told him that he wasn't sure about taking his car out on the banking but he saw this little blue car running around the top of the track and figured he could. Ron told him "if that car was a Chevy Chevy II Nova, that was my son!" Paul Gover and David Merricks also had cars out on the track. David has video from the track on YouTube.
Friday evening there was a picnic at a park near were the Cruise-in was being held. There were 725 cars with 50 more turned way due to lack of place to park them. Barney Fife was there to
