We moved to NC from the Chicago area in the fall of 1987. By the summer of 1988, we were settled and ready to attend the local car shows.
On August 6th, 1988 I attended my first car show of the General Greene Chapter, AACA. I also joined the Chapter, and of course, AACA and the NC Region. The rest is history, as they say.
The following is the history of the General Greene annual car shows, from 1988 to the present.
From August, 1988, and for several years prior, Sears at Friendly Center in Greensboro was our host. General Greene held its annual car show in the Sears parking lot thru 1995, always in August. The last few years there saw our attendance exceed 200 antique, original cars!
We out grew our location and we were also displaced by two cows (Eat More Chikin) as Chick-fi l-A planned to build their restaurant in the parking lot we used.
Since it’s always been so hot in August, General Greene changed the car show date to the first week of June.
June of 1996 & 1997; we moved our car show to Wal Mart on Wendover Ave. The allocated space was not sufficient; we had to find a new site for 1998.
In June 1998 we moved to a new location – Target Stores Shopping Center on Wendover Ave.
The June dates we picked saw cold and rainy weather; we called it “Juneuary”.
We decided to move the car show date back to August for 1999, our second year at Target. Our host politely asked us not to plan our show there next year, as they needed the entire parking lot for their back-to-school customers.
For our 25th annual car show, August, 2000 we moved to the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market, just west of Greensboro. General Greene has held its annual show at this location since then; staying with the first Saturday of August.

As we all know, life is full of highs and lows. Fortunately for most of us more highs than lows and so it is true with our club this year. In May we lost a dear member and friend Mr. Bruce Willis. Bruce was an active member for many years. He was one of those(we all know these types and thank God for them) that did far beyond his share when it came to work that need ed to be done. He was an enthusiastic leader and held many jobs in the club. He loved the club and it’s members. We all miss him dearly.
We had a very beautiful day for our annual picnic in July. Hot, but beautiful. Because of our gracious hosts

Is it Christmas yet? Usually it is the holiday season when I write the General Greene newsletter but Scott was up to his ears in work and baby sitting when he volunteered me to write this month’s newsletter.
General Greene is preparing for this months car show on August 4th. Hopefully we will have good weather this year. Last year we had the threat of overcast sky’s and thunderstorms which never happened but just the threat had a negative effect on our turnout numbers. Hopefully
